Treatment

Treatment of an HIV infected person reduces its infectivity and therefore reduces the risk of HIV transmission to a partner or other persons. At present, a combination of multiple antiviral drugs is used, though it does not destroy the virus, however still significantly slows down its multiplication. Among HIV positive persons, the treatment leads to a longer period without symptoms, to improved quality of life and postpones the onset of AIDS.

Treatment of HIV positive individuals (persons infected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus) including those with AIDS (persons with the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) takes place in so-called AIDS Centres.

All eight AIDS Centres in the Czech Republic provide a complex treatment to all HIV positive persons and persons with AIDS.
